How often should I tune my piano?

It is recommended that you tune your piano at least once a year and service it at least once every 5 years. A piano has over 100 moving parts per key and over 12,000 moving parts in entirety . As such; there are many things can go wrong that might warrant a service/repair call out.

What services do you offer?

Regulation, voicing, felt replacement, action lubrication, hammer realignment, general repairs, pitch raises and string replacement can all be carried out on site. It is our aim to tune every piano a A440 concert pitch although this is sometimes not possible in one sitting.

Are all pianos tuneable/restoreable?

Not all pianos can be tuned. While there are many pianos that stand the test of time: they have generally been well looked after. Unfortunately some are lost to neglect, damp and time. Pianos left beside a radiator too near a heat source can also fall into disrepair due to the the constant heating and cooling of wood fibres, eventually cracking the pinblock or soundboard. It is important to keep a piano in a temperate climate, out of direct sunlight. If you are concerned your piano may fall into this category be sure to mention this when making an appointment.

The app I am using is not recognising the pianos notes, is my piano out of tune?

Your piano might be in tune with itself but the piano is not tuned to concert pitch A440. This can often be remedied by raising the pianos pitch (unless the pianos is too old/has not been tuned to concert pitch in a very long time). It may take up to three tunings to achieve stability after a large rise in pitch. Talk to us about your options. Older pianos such as straight strung/ over damper pianos with candelabras should generally be left at whatever pitch they are at although in some rare cases it might be possible to raise it to concert pitch A440.
